Honda B20 Engines

Honda produced two differenty engines under B20 code. The engines produced between 1985-1989 had a suffix A after B20 code. But those engines had a different design from the entire B-Series family. Parts are generally not interchangable with other B-Series engines. So they are not considered as "real" B-Series engines. The models related to B-Series family has suffix B or Z after B20 code. Actually those engines are reworked non-VTEC B18 engines wtih pistons overbored to 84mm.

B20Z and B20B were only used in CR-V models. They had low compression ratios and low power outputs when compared to other B-Series engines. However their displacement makes them ideal for Frankenstain engines. Tuners usually bolt a VTEC B16 or B18 valvetrain to a B20 short block ending up a B20 VTEC engine. The only modificacations needed are opening oiling lines on short block which are necessary for operating VTEC, and changing the original pistons with high compression ones.

The production of all B20 versions were ceased with the rest of B - Series in 2000. Please check out Honda B-Series Engines page for general information on B Series.
