Honda F22C1 Engine
In 2004, S2000 had recieved its first facelift. Besides some cosmetic changes, the US version has also recieved a new engine. The aim was satisfying the higher torque expectations of North American market users. Instead of developing a new engine, Honda engineers has reworked the F20C engine to increase the displacement. The storke was increased to 90.7mm from 84mm. The updated engine was now displacing 2157cc ; referring to its displacement it was named F22C1.
High rod stroke ratio, which allowed the engine to rev a mind blowing 9000RPM, was affected from the change in stroke. Wtih the new rod stroke ratio the redline was dropped to 8000RPM to prevent engine failures. The camshafts were also revised along with valve spring and retrainers. All these changes increased the peak torque by 6% however the power output stayed the same.
In 2006 Honda introduced F22C1 engine in JDM S2000's instead of JDM F20C. The JDM F22C1 was the same with USDM version. Honda has stopped production of F22C1 in 2009 along with Honda S2000.
