Honda H23 Engines

In 1992 Honda has added a new engine to H-Series family named H23. H23 engine  was almost the same with its sister, H22. Both were using, the same aluminum block  with 87mm bore, Honda Systems PGM-FI with port fuel injection, dual overhead cams and 4 valves per cylinder. However H23 had a longer cranck shaft, 95mm vs 90.7mm found on H22 engines, thus had a displacement of 2258cc.

The first version of H23 engine, named H23A was a mildly tuned engine. Compression ratio was 9.8:1 and  it was not eqıipped with VTEC.  The poweroutput was 165hp with a relatively lower redline of 6500rpm. Thanks to the higher displacement H23A reached its peak torque value at 4500 rpm. Different versions of H23A were produced for various markets under names H23A1, H23A2, and H23A3. These engines were almost the same with H23A with small differences in the power output.

1999 saw the relase of a new version of H23A  that offers VTEC. This new version also used the engine code H23A . Besides VTEC, it also recieved FRM cylinder walls. Compression ratio was increased to 10.6:1.and the power out put was 200hp. DOHC VTEC H23A was only used in JDM CH9 Accord Wagon SiR and JDM Accord Wagon AWD. It was identified by the blue valve cover.
