Honda C32B Engine

In 1997 Honda has released a new engine to be used in NSXs with manual transmission.  This engine was named C32B and it was a reworked C30A engine. Honda increased the displacement from 2977cc to 3.179cc by replacing 90mm pistons with 93mm ones. C32B has thinner cylinder walls in order to accomodate larger pistons. To enhance the structural integrity of the engine, cylinder walls were treated with special lining named Fiber Reinforced Cylinder Walls (FRM)

Differences between C30A and C32B were not only limited with displacement. The fuel line had saturated injectors, air flow was increaed further with larger intake valves and better flowing heads. Throttle was changed to drive-by-wire. Different head gaskets were used, however the compression ratio stayed the same. Piston pin diameter was increased from 22mm to 23mm and larger connecting rod bearings were used. With all these changes, the power output has increased by 20hp and reached 290hp.

The production of C32B ended in 2005 along with Honda / Acura NSX
